On
January 4, 2000, His Holiness, the Dalai Lama held a public audience at
his residence in Dharamsala India. His Holiness had just returned
from weeks of travel and teachings (during which his entourage had been
involved in a car accident, causing concern for his health). He looked
and sounded quite well, however, as he greeted hundreds of recent arrivals
from Tibet and a handful of foreigners before beginning a two month retreat.
He spoke for more than 45 minutes as he greeted those who had recently
fled Tibet and warned them of the difficulties of life in exile.
